Higher Stancombe Farm

Our History

History

Higher Stancombe Farmhouse and Stables were built by the late John Lister in the early 1990’s. Being a keen horseman, as well as a farmer, there were a small fleet of thoroughbred point-to-pointers stabled in, what are now, the holiday cottages. Sadly, John passed away, but the property has remained in the family ever since and George, born in 2012, will be the fourth generation of the family to live and grow up here.

The Stables were first converted to offices and later to holiday accommodation in 2016 and having proved to be so popular that it wasn’t long before Furlong Cottage ceased to house horses and started housing people instead, during the infamous year of 2020.
With so much space and open countryside around us we are very fortunate to welcome many guests repeatedly and it is always such a pleasure seeing our guests enjoying the wide-open, beautiful countryside as much as we do.

Sustainability

Here at Higher Stancombe Farm we are very aware of the environmental crisis that our planet is facing, and we are constantly seeking ways to improve and minimise our own environmental impact.

It’s an ongoing process, but we are trying each year to improve our sustainability and minimise our carbon footprint, whilst realising that we still have a long way to go.

At certain times of the year, we leave areas of the lawns to grow to encourage insects and butterflies.

We kindly request that our guests embrace this beautiful farm and our efforts to encourage wildlife. Please walk around the fields and enjoy their beauty and the stunning views.

Lovely place to stay

Laura was very welcoming and happy to help in anyway. Lovely walks and views around the area and a nice location not far from places if you wanted to go on day trips.

Beautiful place and outstanding views

Such a cosy atmosphere as well. Laura communicated excellently. We felt very comfortable there. A*!

Christopher

Lovely and peaceful accommodation

Perfect for us and our dogs. More space than what the pictures suggest. We can highly recommend the Bear and Blacksmith pub which is 5 minutes away although pre booking is likely to be required.

What is there not to like about this little gem

Biscuits on the table, milk in the fridge, comfy sofas, huge space, fully equipped kitchen, coffee pods and a selection of teas, surrounded by countryside. Loved our time away here

We had a wonderful stay!

The accommodation is beautifully furnished and fully equipped, which made our stay extremely comfortable despite some rather unfortunate weather. Great kitchen for cooking, everything available, and a qonderfully comfortable sofa to relax on and watch TV. Laura was extremely friendly and helpful with recommendations for the local area. We are hoping to return soon.

Carolyn

This is the best Airbnb I have stayed at by far

A really high standard in all rooms, I could not fault all the facilities, too many to mention. I will definitely go back again and will recommend it to anyone.

The accommodation was great!

Very quiet location. Laura was onsite and very helpful but she respected our privacy. Very comfortable and with everything you need. The area of South Hams is stunningly beautiful. If you like seafood, coastal walks and private little coves to have a dip in the sea, this is the place for you. The tree lines single track lanes with passing places were fun to drive along. Kingsbridge with various shops and supermarkets is within easy reach. We spent a fabulous 10 nights here. Would highly recommend it.

We really enjoyed our few days in the cottage

Everything was spotlessly clean and well equipped which made for a great stay. The bed was very comfortable and the fixtures, fittings and furniture are all of a very high standard throughout. We liked the countryside location as it was really quiet and peaceful but also close enough to explore along the SW Coast Path each day. Overall a great stay which we would recommend to anyone wanting to stay in this area.

We could not recommend the stables enough!

The perfect space for our family with two young children and our dog! Laura thought of everything we could need with young children and we can’t wait to go back soon!

We had a lovely time at Higher Stancombe

So quiet, homely and cosy. Everything you need for a comfortable break away! Lovely walks from the door. Also within a short drive of Kingsbridge, Hope Cove, Salcombe, Dartmouth and lots of lovely beaches. Highly recommend.
